SAE 10W-30
API SJ

A 1E motor.

Engine 1E

Symptoms:
- Rough idling and stalling
- Poor acceleration and reduced power
- Hard starting, especially when cold
- Excessive smoke from the exhaust
- Overheating or unusual engine noises

Diagnosis:
- Check for vacuum leaks around intake manifold and hoses
- Inspect ignition components: spark plugs, wires, distributor cap, and rotor
- Test fuel delivery system: fuel pump, filter, and carburetor or injectors
- Examine timing belt condition and timing marks alignment
- Look for signs of coolant leaks or head gasket failure (white smoke, milky oil)
- Compression test to assess cylinder health

Fixes:
- Replace worn or cracked vacuum hoses to eliminate leaks
- Change spark plugs and ignition parts as needed to restore proper firing
- Clean or rebuild carburetor; replace clogged fuel filter and faulty fuel pump
- Replace timing belt if worn or stretched; reset timing to factory specs
- Repair any coolant leaks; replace head gasket if blown
- Address overheating issues by flushing radiator and checking thermostat
- Perform valve adjustment if engine runs rough or has low compression

Prevention:
- Regularly replace spark plugs and ignition components every 20,000-30,000 km
- Change engine oil and filter every 5,000-7,500 km to maintain lubrication
- Inspect and replace timing belt every 60,000-90,000 km to prevent failure
- Keep cooling system maintained: check coolant level and condition periodically
- Avoid prolonged idling and harsh driving to reduce engine stress
- Use quality fuel and keep fuel system clean to prevent clogging and poor combustion
